Weekend Wrap Up : Conquering New Things

 It was such a busy week last week and the weekend was about the same.

Beautiful autumn weather with a little bit of rain and then a whole lot of sun with crisp air.

We had some really fun mile stones this weekend.

I finally was able to bring out this awesome tool bench that I picked up from my neighbor's yard when they were throwing it out.  I actually almost bought the exact same one from our local resale shop.  But free is even better than resale!  This thing is awesome.  The drill and saw actually move and light up.  I think I'm going to put a thank you note in their mailbox.

It's been sitting in the garage for a few weeks as an incentive to sleep in his bed all night.  He's so funny, he always asks about it and just wants to go look at it or touch it for just a second.  But when he came to us wanting to go on the potty and actually went (both), I decided it was a great "reward" for that.  He was so excited.

My accomplishment, fried chicken.

I was so excited to make this honey dipped fried chicken (what looked easy) recipe from Cook's Country.  It was so good and pretty easy.  I did forget to put the batter on the chicken which is kind of a huge step.  But since you coat it once with corn starch before the batter, it actually tasted really good.

I saw it on their PBS show last week.

I only had to call my dad like three times.  And his last words as we were hanging up was, be careful.  Something I kept saying over and over in my head.  Like, if he said it, I better watch out.  And...he was right.  That oil is H-O-T and I wasn't prepared for the popping and distance.

I made crispy honey chicken biscuit sandwiches the next morning.  Who needs Chick-fil-a?  (I do)

Lots of park time before the weather turns south.  I love this new pull over.  More on that this week with some other fun finds.

Birthday parties

I guess Gymboree's music selection was a little too loud for his liking.

I loved seeing these two together at the birthday party.  Such siblings.

An actual picture of me and my girl, both looking at the camera, both happy (obviously) and both smiling.  No double chins, no drool.  Win, win.

Laughable TV

Did anyone catch these shows?

It was a special on NBC the other night counting down the top 20 funniest scenes from comedies over the years.  From Dick Van Dyke to The Cosby Show to Parks & Recreation.  Remember when prime time used to be really funny and family friendly?  This was a good reminder...and funny.

On A&E, Wednesdays after Duck Dynasty.  

Extremely produced but I thought pretty funny.  It is filmed in Austin so I always enjoy seeing the scenery of Pease Park and other local spots.  A few discussions that I don't care for but it's just what you think it would be, but "real".

We were randomly watching a MTV show last night to see Amy Schumer's interview and this segment came on.

I could help but laugh, especially the free dance.

Today is the last day of school for the local district.

I know, it's so weird that they go so late in the East coast.

I want to find a picture from one of my favorite last days of school.  The last day of school, first day of summer is right up there with the 4th of July for me.  Some of my best memories from my childhood.

So I want to post about it.  More for me to be nostalgic.  I'm always really missing Texas about this time of the year.

But for now I'll just post this clip I thought was funny.

A Few Good Movie Clips

Yesterday was a grey, very rainy day.  We played puzzles and watched some of my favorite summer movies.

Ok, he mostly played puzzles and rocket ship.  I watched one of my favorite summer movies between feedings, cleaning and saying for the 1000th time "leave her alone".

Yesterday was Shag.  One of my favorites.  In case you forgot, here's my favorite movie dance scene.


We danced during the dance scenes.  I even taught my son to dip.  Big into dipping.  Doesn't really get it, but loves to dip down low.  Over and over....and over.

He showed me how he dances to Bob the Builder at school which easily transitions with the music of the 50s from the movie.  Who knew?

I could watch that movie over and over (and I do when crafting).  Which got me thinking.

The best way to start a good movie is a good, musical intro.

These two may be my very favorite of all time.  Movies need more singing and dancing.

Fallon Vs Krasinski

I like John Krasinski but this makes me really like him.

So cute.

I definitely thought Jimmy would take this one and was pleasantly surprised my John's enthusiasm and dedication.

I don't know if I just never realized how much this song is played on the radio or I just enjoy it about 99% more after watching this Jimmy Fallon and Justin Timberlake sketch.

Working Hard For the Money

One of the latest shows my husband worked on last year is about to air.  It is actually pretty funny and I was impressed by the production quality.

And remember, my husband is a producer but he does not write or create the content.  Repeat, he does not write or create the content of this show.

Dad, just remember we just had another baby and it's better than him being on the road for 6 weeks at a time on some reality show.

Sharing The News

We aren't big "announcement" people.  For some reason Steve and I both don't really like making a big deal about things or surprises or what have you.  We are just weird like that and it makes us feel uncomfortable.

This pregnancy I actually found out the day before I left Texas so my mom was the first to know because I was a little shocked and had to ask her to confirm the test.
BTW- Not that I've had a previous experience but even if you are 32 years old, it's weird taking a test at your parent's house.

But I do like seeing others creative announcements or reactions.  This lady is crazy.

Rock Center: The World Of Amazon.Com

And what a world it is.

I happened to catch this segment about Amazon.com and their warehouse on Rock Center with Brian Williams last night.

I was pretty fascinated by their facility in Arizona.  The size of 28 football fields.  Makes sense since they do have almost everything but I guess I just thought they mostly outsourced.

And they are conscious of their carbon footprint.  Kind of.

Cool Rider takes over Jimmy Fallon

Did you catch Michelle Pfeiffer on Jimmy Fallon last night?

I always hoped that she would maybe come on and just maybe The Roots (who are known to personalize and dig deep for great intro songs) would do a rendition of Cool Rider.  I know, these are the things I think about.



AND THEY DID!  I was hoping she would go into a story but she didn't.  She did note that it was funny.  Jimmy Fallon appreciated it.

BTW- Steven said that nobody knows that song or movie but me so no one would get it.  I told him he was very, very wrong.  Then he tried to do the cool rider dance which just upset me because it was more like a chicken dance.  I don't mock Eddie, do I?

Now that Girls is over (which I loved but many people thought it was pretentious) I need some new shows.

I really like this show.  A little darker than I anticipated but I think Sutton Foster is making a great transition from Broadway to TV.  You can definitely tell she is a theatre girl.  Now if she will just sing. And more dancing, definitely needs more of the ballet and dance scenes.  By her and the girls!

Someone That I Used To Know

I don't know if I started liking this song because of this video or I like this video because I really like the song.
